Honda, Japan Based Motor Company is on a verge of ranking #1 in two-wheeler business in Indian market. After the event of 2010 Auto Expo, the company has queued several bikes in list of launches and the sales are increasing tremendously. The success trend of HMSI (Honda Motorcycles & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd.) can be observed after the sales count was out and it made HMSI to list #3 two-wheeler sellers in India. The position has been swapped with TVS Motors, India. Besides a lag, TVS has still maintained its presence at the top in sales of Mopeds.

Sales Report:

Motorcycles: HMSI has sold 58,041 units in the motorcycle segment while as TVS Motor’s lags behind with sell count of 49,008.

Scooter: HMSI proved incredible in another section, scooters, with 71,477 units while as TVS Motors sold just 25,159 units.

Mopeds: In case of mopeds, it was TVS which was amazingly ahead which sold 51,829 units in comparison with HMSI’s 40,915 count.

HMSI has maintained #1 position in scooters segment but the company is worried about the motorcycles. The official conveyed that they expect to surpass sales of scooters by motorcycles next fiscal.

Honda’s Best Selling Scooters:

Activa – sells about 50,000 units a month

Dio – sells about 5,000 units a month

Aviator – sells about 10,000 units month

But the competition is getting tough with the emerging two-wheeler manufacturers like Mahindra n Mahindra that introduced new upcoming bikes on 2010 Auto Expo which may arrive by next year. And even the manufacturers like Kawasaki and Suzuki that are ready to boost Indian motorways with power bikes.

Though HONDA has an array of performance motorcycles in its product portfolio, it should seriously consider launching performance oriented scooters into the country. The engine of the discontinued Eterno could have been retained to launch a PCX type of scooter, besides it should contemplate of bringing Goldwing & S-wing to India.
