by Faizan on June 11, 2010

The Italian Automobile Group, Piaggio has accepted the expansion plans in Indian Auto Market with the expected launch of Vespa LX125 by the year 2012.

Piaggio is world’s fourth largest producer of scooters and motorcycles. Piaggio is a group of brands and many may be unaware that Aprilla, Moto Guzzi, Vespa and Derbi like tags fall under the same group. And amongst the only known to Indian riders was Vespa and it’s the only brand which will be re-introduced in the market by 2012 under name tag as Vespa Lx125.

Piaggio has already a subsidiary plant in Pune which produces three and four wheelers in Indian market. Piaggio Group has a plan to invest $36million in 2010 and 2011 that shall probably reap revenue of about $84million by 2015.

It was Bajaj Autos which had tried to collaborate with the Group for two to three times from 1960 to 1971 and then LML Motors by the year 1983. And after providing many Vespa scooters for citizens, the agreement ended by the year 1999.

The Piaggio Vespa 125LX will be powered by a 125cc engine which can produce power upto 10bhp. The scooter is expected to come along with many mod features like disc brakes, oil indicator, digital metre, clock, self start etc.

It shall definitely evolve as a brave competition to scooter manufacturers like Honda and TVS. There is also Kine from Mahindra which will also be an interesting launch to wait.
