The first month of the new financial year was as usual a better one compared to the previous month’s sales. It was also higher than the corresponding month last year. Hero MotoCorp as always was the highest auto seller with a growth of 6.66 per cent compared to the last year’s April sales. Hero sold 5, 51,557 units in the last month as against the 5, 17,099 units in April last year.

This shows a growth of 34,458 units sold in the 30 day period. If the month on month sales is considered, the sales have gone up by 4.40 per cent. The company sold 5, 28,290 units in March this year. This means that the 5, 51,557 units sales are the topmost in Hero’s history. The company had managed such high sales in September last year when the sales were 5, 49,625 units.

India’s second largest two wheeler producers, Bajaj Auto were also in the list of companies that recorded healthy sales. With a growth of 9.64 per cent, the company stands on the second spot for the sales. In April this year, the company sold 3,42,324 in April this year, while for April last year, the company had sold 3,22,235 units – a growth of 20,089 units. As far as the exports are concerned, Bajaj exported 1, 69,010 units.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Ltd had the highest amount of growth – 45.53 per cent. In April 2012, Honda sold 1, 98,831 units as against the 1, 36,622 units in April last year. However, on a month on month basis, the company sales have gone down by 9.82 per cent. In March this year, the company could sell 2, 20,487 units.

The scooter segment proved to be a profitable business for Honda as sales jumped 32.37 per cent. In April this year, the company sold 1, 17,404 units when in April last year, they had sold only 75,108 units.

As far as the TVS Motors are concerned, they registered an overall growth of 4.49 per cent. Sales rose from 1, 71,551 units in April last year to 1, 64,183 units last month. The total sales for the company stood at 1, 74,455 units. The sales for the last April were 1, 67,744 units – an increase of 4 per cent.

All in all, the sales proved to be on the rise for all the companies working in the Indian two wheeler market.
