Ever since one of the most talked about partnerships in the auto industry – Hero and Honda, has parted ways, there have been lots of talks about it. The post break-up scenario, the expected competition the two erstwhile business partners will have and the impact it will have on the industry in general are some of the topics that have been dealt again and again.
But probably one thing that has not been in the picture on a regular basis is about the badge. As Honda is a foreign company in India, Hero will soon see off the name from the household tag of ‘Hero Honda’. It is expected that these changes would take place around the second quarter of the 2012-13 financial year.
The changes would be applicable to all the models. This means the company will have to launch the entire model range under the ‘Hero’ brand name. Hero will start the rebranding exercise a couple of years ahead of time before its license expires. Hero has the legal timing to use the Honda brand name until June 2014.
Mr. Pawan Munjal, who is the MD & CEO of Hero Motocrp, said that the company will soon complete the entire exercise of re-branding by the second quarter of the fiscal. He also expressed the confidence that Hero is on staring at the threshold to becoming a global company in the real sense.
Mr. Munjal said that they are focusing on having markets where they would not have to make any reasonable changes in their models and have a greater volume to work on. However, there would be modifications to their existing range of models that would be made available in the international markets.
The company is expecting to have at least 25 per cent increase in their international markets from now on.
