The government is back on its tracks. After rolling back the fuel prices – especially the petrol prices, they have increased the same again by 70 paise. The hike has come into effect from today – Monday, July 24. The reason of the rise in the international crude oil prices has been put forth.
On June 3, a marginal rollback of Rs. 2.02 and Rs. 2.46 on June 29 have been overshadowed due to today’s rise. However, that did not really make the people happy as already the government had increased Rs. 7.54 in one go – the highest price rise at a time in the history.
In the financial capital Mumbai, the price has been raised by Rs. 0.88. The fuel there now will cost Rs. 74.24 per liter. Petrol will cost Rs. 73.61 a liter in Kolkata from today as compared to Rs. 72.74 per liter. In Chennai the hike was of Rs. 0.89 per liter and the fuel will cost Rs. 73.16 a liter.
However, the government allies were unhappy about the sudden petrol hike as for them the hike had come without taking them into account. However, this protest is hardly going to make any difference as chances are very little that there will be another rollback.
