You need to have something unique and special with you to attract customers. If it is the DTS-i technology with Bajaj, there is performance, style and the trust of Hero.

TVS has got itself in this league of having something special with them what the other bike players in the market do not have. TVS now has a unique technology that will save fuel by as much as 20 per cent. It is effective if compared with the traditional technology which is in use today.

The TVS is one of the major auto players in India. It may not be as glamorous as Hero MotoCorp, Honda Motors or Bajaj Auto for that matter. But, it is the only auto maker in India to have a unique award against its name. Leave alone India, but TVS has received a price that no other auto maker has got in the entire world. It is the Deming Prize, which is the most coveted award in the world. The company has got the award for their Total Quality Management. This is the price that will certainly make TVS a proud auto maker.

Coming back to the new technology, it is the TVS Automatic Transmission. This new technology takes the place of the traditionally used Continuously Variable Transmission Technology (CVT). The TVS Auto Transmission will make the gear changing a lot easier. In fact, there will be an electronic control for shifting gears automatically for particular riding conditions.

This technology makes it possible for the vehicle to run in the most effective RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) way. That gives the vehicle the best possible performance. And so the engine can achieve its peak efficiency. This in turn, overrides the prerequisite to use the clutch.

According to the company, this technology is currently tested on the 110cc vehicles, with a four stroke engine. TVS has also added ECU (Electronic Control Unit). The ECU helps in enhancing the performance of the bike, thereby making the vehicle more fuel efficient.

World Have Its Most Expensive Electric Motorcycle

Electric Bikes

News Journal

Technology And Concepts

There is nothing that ceases to fascinate mankind even after such a huge leap in technology today. The urge to do something new is always there. Some do it and show off their skills, while some may not. But Daniel Simon falls in the first category. He can proudly show off what he has achieved.

<img
class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-3912" title="The detonator" src="http://www.bikespace.in/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/the_detonator.jpg" alt="detonator"width="549" height="238" />We are talking about the world of impossibilities in motorcycles. Daniel Simon has come up with the most expensive electric motorcycle in the world. It honestly looks like a ‘Transformer’ than a bike. However, the world’s most expensive electric motorcycle has not come out of the blue. There was some inspiration that drew Daniel Simon do this.

It was actually a sci-fi blockbuster that prompted Daniel Simon to go for this record making motorcycle. There were the Parker Brothers to aid Simon. And before long the Tron Lightcycle was ready.

Would you believe that a motorcycle can be 11.5 feet long? If you cannot, then do believe the Tron Lightcycle. It is a motorcycle that indeed spans that long. It has a price tag of $100,000. There are lithium-ion batteries to power the motorcycle. Once charged, it can be driven for more than 80 to 100 miles. As far as the speed of the bike is concerned, it can reach a top speed of 120 mph.

Considering the length of the motorcycle, Daniel Simon thinks it is legally built when it comes to being street legality. What Daniel challenges you is the ability to put in the $100,000.

Ducati Presents Superquadro 195 hp Motorcycle Engine

Ducati

News Journal

Technology And Concepts

The 1199 Panigale is the upcoming super bike from the clan of Ducati. The manufacturing company has made public which engine will make the super bike run. There is less than a month to go before the bike to be unveiled. And the announcement comes quite close to this release.

The Ducati bike will be made open to the public viewing at the EICMA International Motorcycle Show in Milan. The Motor Show is scheduled for November 10 to 13.

<img
class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-3847" title="2012-Ducati-Superquadro-195hp-engine" src="/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/2012-Ducati-Superquadro-195hp-engine.jpg" alt="superquadro"width="620" height="634" />The new motor, which is identified as Superquadro is unique in itself. What makes it different is the immense power it can produce out of just a couple of cylinders. The company promises a power of 195 Hp. Ducati has decided to address the engine as “an absolute production twin-cylinder milestone”.

What Ducati has achieved here, is making the engine a bit lighter and yet increasing the torque as well as the power with the help of the Superquadro. A lighter engine means it will be easier to handle and in turn will make it more user friendly.

The bike will be able to use the engine controlled electronics that will allow the biker to make adjustments to the power settings that can suit various kinds of streets and driving conditions. If one looks at other types of super bikes that come from the houses of major auto players like the Yamaha, Suzuki or Honda, the bikes with four cylinders have always performed better than the two cylinder bikes.

Ducati has been using the 90-degree L-twin design for a long time now. If it makes any changes in it, it runs a risk of losing the customer base. That is why there is pressure and the need to perform as well as improve.

The racing contests will prove the worth of the Ducati bikes and engines. One thing goes in favor of the Italian bike maker. History shows that the company has tasted success in super bikes racings.

Diesel Bikes May Be A Reality Soon, Courtesy Royal Enfield

News Journal

Royal Enfield

Technology And Concepts
<guid

If their dreams realize, then it would be a big boost for the Indian automobile industry. Royal Enfield – India’s oldest bike manufacturing company today, is contemplating upon manufacturing a bike that would run on diesel.

It is the sheer need to explore greater horizons and contribute in the field with something new. In another development for the company, they are also thinking upon entering the 750cc segment bikes as well. They plan to go past the 750cc bikes in the coming days. However, the 350cc and the 500cc capacity bikes that the company produces are still with lesser competition.

The CEO of the company said that a bike with the 750cc category that comes with twin cylinders is still in its budding days. There is hardly any fight in this category. However, at the same time, he also said that the amount of vehicles in the segment do not seem to paint a cozy picture as of now.

Royal Enfield is working on introducing the diesel powered bikes in the Indian market. However, it is not the first time that any company will be contemplating upon diesel powered two wheelers. Earlier, in 1990s, it was the very same RE that had brought diesel powered bikes in the country.

However, the demand and supply ratio is too inverse to handle right now. Royal Enfield has a production capacity of 75,000 units per year. However, the demand for the Classic variants is so high that there is a waiting period of almost one full year. Even a city like Mumbai is facing the draught of the supply.

To address this issue, the company is planning a new plant near Channai. It covers land of about 50 acres. Royal Enfield wants to make the plant fully operational until the beginning of the year 2013. If it so happens, the production will increase by 1, 50,000 units per year.

Cafe Racer will be one of the first launches that might materialize at the latest in around 18 months.

Japanese Manufacturer Mazda To Bring Out Laser Supported Engines

More Manufacturers

News Journal

Technology And Concepts

manufacturing bikes with liquid cooled engines instead of the current air cooled ones in their plants. We have a similar piece of news where a company is toying with the idea of changes in the engine system.

The universal spark plug ignition system might be counting its final days in the factories of Mazda. The company will be bringing out engines where lasers have been installed. This means, instead of the regular spark plugs which lets off the process of combustion, lasers will help in starting the vehicles.

This system will be seen in the next generation Mazda rotary engines. These engines will be manufactured with lasers that will do the exact work like that of a spark plug. However, what is the use of replacing lasers with spark plug only for the sake of replacement if there are no developments? This question has exactly been addressed to by Mazda.

The lasers in these new age 16X Mazda rotary engines will cut down on the ignition time and of course, will perform much better than the current spark plugs. The work on these next generation rotary engines is in full swing. As of now, the testing phase is underway in the company’s factory. According to company sources, these next gen rotary engines should be out in the market until the next year.

Mazda is confident that these rotary engines will make the ignition system more effective than the current spark plug ignition system. They are also hopeful that it will not leave any residue too. This promises of a lucid and clear burn during the ignition.

What these lasers in the rotary engine will do is that, they will burn the mixture of the fuel with the oxygen – obviously more effectively than the spark plug. This will then set off the combustion route. The size of these lasers is 11mm and 9 mm correspondingly.

The entry of such laser supported engines will certainly spark a new war between the auto companies. However, there is no source where Mazda has talked about the patent for this technology yet. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Student Develops Laser Unit For Bike Safety

News Journal

Spares & Gears

Technology And Concepts

As the need for speed has always been considered an inseparable part of vehicles, so have the safety measures been. In fact, safety has and always should come first for any kind of vehicles. Keeping this in mind, a student at the University of Brighton in England, Emily Brooke, has developed a unique safety gear for bikes.

This invention has got Emily a place at Babson College in Massachusetts in the US.

The new development is the laser unit. This unit actually projects a green image made of laser rays. It can then keep the other bikes on the alert and inform that there is a bike in the vicinity. The presence of this image could be potentially a life-saver as it glows bright in the dark.

Emily has named her invention, Blaze. Blaze works on a battery. This battery is fastened at the handlebars of the bike. This image gets projected ahead of their own bike and alerts them if there is any vehicle ahead of them.

There are two good things of this invention. The first is that it is a flashing light. So it is very easy to attract the attention. The second thing is that you can detect this image even in broad daylight (though practically it will not help with that intensity). That makes it an even more useful device.

The invitation for Emily Brooke in the United States has opened doors for her for further developments in her invention. But given her age as a student, Emily has studied why her invention can be of great help. Emily has said that she wanted to embark upon the issue of safety for bikers.

The visibility factor is an important issue and that is why this flash laser image could be of help. According to Emily Brooke, there are 80 per cent accidents which occur when vehicles dash them from behind. But now with Blaze in place, we can hope that the number of accidents will come down.

36 Futuristic Motorcycle Concepts

Photo Base

Technology And Concepts
<guid

But it was used by the MotoGP riders as well. Now, when we say airbags for MotoGP, we invariably think of Dainese and Yamaha. However, this security gear has crossed its normal horizons. Alpinestars is the company that is taking over the production of such airbags.

The Repsol Honda team consists of riders Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso. These three use the Alpinestars Tech Air which is an electronic airbag safety system and is entirely wireless. The press release from the company claims that they are striving to provide the best of the promising safety gear for the riders which can make them focused on their race and lead them to victory.

The good thing about this safety gear is that it is not connected to any foreign security system for the security information of the rider. Whatever the airbag carries for the safety is limited to the airbag physically. Therefore, it is easy to use it for the riders as it takes care of the security of the rider all by itself. Secondly, it is used with the normal riding suit of the riders. So, it gets easier to align the airbags with the riding suit.

There is a microprocessor in the system unit which always keeps an eye on the security position of the rider. The processor keeps a track of the movements of the rider. It itself determines if there is any need to launch the safety airbags. These bags are placed at the upper body of the rider so that he can get maximum protection if he really meets with an accident.

There is a trigger in place for the rider to use in case if he feels the need to inflate the airbag. With the help of the nitrogen gas, it takes only about 45 milliseconds to inflate the bag fully.

There is an all round protection to the rider of 5 seconds, before the Alpinestars systems restarts the process of depleting the airbag. However, it can be brought in the use for the second time in case the rider is in a position to keep riding. This means, for the second time, the entire system can be used in the same intensity once again.

A Dual Clutch Gearbox, A Possibility For Yamaha R1?

News Journal

Spares & Gears

Technology And Concepts

Yamaha

The engineers at the Yamaha are trying to figure out a mechanism which will allow the R1 to have a dual clutch gearbox for their bike. As of now, it is only the Honda VFR1200F, which has a dual clutch gearbox. And it is the only bike in the world thus far. If Yamaha is successful in having a dual clutch gearbox, it may just be the brand to follow Honda.

A dual clutch gearbox has two options – manual and automatic. This facility will give the rider the option of toggling between these two options. This makes life a lot easier for the rider with the presence of the automatic clutch transmission. No wonder, Yamaha is also thinking about getting the technology patented.

There are various sketches released showing the presence of the dual clutch gearbox. However, it is difficult to make out exactly how the mechanism works. But at the same time, the soothing thing is that the technology might soon be a reality with Yamaha’s R1. The new production of R1 is exactly being done with the dual clutch gearbox in mind.

It is but natural for the engine of the Yamaha’s R1 to be a tad wider due to the fact that there will be another clutch physically present there. This will use up some extra space in the engine, which might make it a bit wider than the current R1 bikes.

There are some blueprints leaked on Yamaha Dual Clutch Gearbox. Have a look below! The gearbox is very different from Honda VFR as it has two gearboxes on each sides!

So what will you expect out of the dual clutches? First thing is that, it will save you the efforts of using the clutch manually every time. The second benefit is about the automatic use of the clutch. The auto use of the clutch will not only make the transition a lot easier, but also faster and smoother.

The smoother use of the clutch will consume lesser of fuel and less fuel means more millage. So, the fuel economy should also see a rise in the bikes with dual clutch gearbox.

Honda May Make Motorcycle Safety Belts A Reality

Honda

Technology And Concepts
<guid

This is the first of its unique idea implemented by the auto major. For someone who loves the risky high speed drives, it may sound really weird. However, Honda is damn serious in their business as they have even gone ahead to file a patent for this innovative idea.

To start off, the company has considered a bike like Goldwing for the safety belt. There is not much room on the seat for the rider to make any extra movements. Most of the time, the rider is positioned on the seat itself. The logic for the belts used for four-wheelers is mostly the same even for two-wheelers. The belt is expected to protect the rider when the bike stops suddenly.

In a study, it has been found that the most common reasons for major injuries to the rider or drivers happens to be the fact that the person remains attached with the machine. Taking this into account, there is an option of ejector seat as well. What it does is that it makes the rider swoop down the road with him still on the seat.

The idea for the airbags was not much welcomed in the initial days. However, with the thing working for the Goldwing, the controversy may have stopped for a bit. However, this idea has not yet been driven in other bikes yet. But taking into account the current experiments and the developments going on in full swing, the day might not be too far when safety belts and airbags would be a common feature on any two-wheeler.
